In May, InEExS hosted the webinar "From Tech to Transformation: Accelerating Building Energy Efficiency through ICT Solutions" alongside the ENERGATE and FORTESIE projects as part of the EUSEW 2024 Sustainable Energy Days. The session, hosted by Katerina Papapostolou (NTUA), focused on innovative solutions to improve building energy efficiency.
Ioanna Andreoulaki from ENERGATE presented an energy efficiency marketplace designed to connect building stakeholders with financiers. Francisco Puente from InEExS discussed the use of blockchain technology for creating smart energy contracts tailored to the energy sector. Kostas Panagopoulos from FORTESIE highlighted solutions to boost building renovation rates, including an online marketplace and collaborative business models.
The panel discussion emphasized the role of innovative tech, such as blockchain, in facilitating building renovations and overcoming gaps in the energy value chain. The discussion also addressed blockchain's technical and security challenges, social acceptance issues, and financial barriers to investing in buildings. ENERGATE proposed aggregating projects to attract investors, while FORTESIE suggested crowdfunding loans for smaller projects.
The session underscored how well-designed tech solutions can help the EU meet its Energy Efficiency Directive targets and achieve a smooth and fair energy transition.
